Hotel Yagi
ホテル八木
Does Hotel Yagi allow tattoos? Yes, covered
Tattooed guests can use the large baths at Hotel Yagi with one of the inn’s cover-up seals, handed out at the front desk. The inn may still ask a guest with extensive tattooing to stop bathing if other guests object.
The inn’s hot spring page asks tattooed guests to tell the front desk before they bathe, and its FAQ adds that size and circumstances can lead to refusal. Gang members are barred from the inn.

The bath
The large baths run on the inn’s own spring, fully free-flowing. The inn mixes a hot well with a cooler one to set the temperature instead of adding water, and heats it only on some winter days. It’s a salty spring that keeps you warm long after you get out.
The men’s and women’s sides each have an indoor bath, an open-air bath and an aroma sauna where you pour water on the stones yourself. The sides don’t swap. The indoor baths are open 3 p.m. to 10:30 a.m., though cleaning can mean a short wait between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. The open-air baths are open 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., the saunas 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Towels, bath towels and a shampoo bar with several brands to choose from are in the changing rooms, along with a baby bath and a baby bed.
The hotel
Stays are all-inclusive: dinner and breakfast buffets of about 60 dishes, all made in the inn’s kitchen, draft beer in the lobby from 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and alcohol with dinner, with a few paid exceptions. The Japanese-style rooms run from 30 to 50 square meters, all non-smoking, and one room type has its own open-air bath. Futons are laid out before you arrive, so staff don’t come in during your stay. Check-in is from 3 p.m., checkout 11 a.m. Wi-Fi is free, and pets aren’t allowed.
Good to know
- Closed several days a month. The inn shuts on runs of midweek days, usually Tuesday to Thursday, and doesn’t answer the phone on those days. Check its calendar before you plan.
- Solo stays are sold only on weekdays and in the off-season.
