Flugel Kuju
フリューゲル久住
Does Flugel Kuju allow tattoos? In a private bath
Flugel Kuju scatters ten detached cottages across about 40,000 square meters of the Kuju highland, and each has an open-air tub on its terrace and a stone indoor tub, both fed by a spring the resort likens to Nagayu’s.
Flugel Kuju publishes no tattoo rule and has no shared bath: every one of its ten detached cottages has its own open-air bath and indoor bath of free-flowing spring water, open 24 hours.
The bath
The water is a bicarbonate spring, which the resort says is almost the same as Nagayu's nearby: a skin-smoothing bath that clears dead skin and pores, and, because it carries carbon dioxide, a cooling bath that leaves you feeling fresh. It lists it for cuts, burns and chronic skin trouble; it is not for drinking. White mineral flakes may form a film on the surface, which the resort says is harmless.
There is no shared bath. Each of the ten cottages has two baths of its own, both fed straight from the source and open 24 hours. On the terrace is an open-air bath, built differently in each cottage; the resort suggests a soak before dinner, or sitting on the rim as a foot bath. Inside is a wide stone bath big enough for a family. The photo shows an open-air tub edged in grey stone, full of amber water, under a timber post with red and orange maples and a board fence behind.
The hotel
Ten detached cottages of 60 square meters for one to four, on an estate the resort puts at about 150 tennis courts, with a living room, a raised mattress area and a Japanese room. Starlight Room cottages stand farther apart and come with a record player. Doorways are ramped and you park beside your cottage. Welcome drinks in the lounge, homemade cookies and a free fridge. Dinner is a Western-style full course by the resort's chef in the glass-walled restaurant Regen Bogen. Check-in 3 to 6 p.m., check-out 11 a.m.
