Does Onyado Nono Matsumoto allow tattoos? Yes, covered
Onyado Nono Matsumoto is a 10-story hotel where guests leave their shoes at the door and walk tatami corridors to a top-floor bath that looks over Matsumoto Station to the Northern Alps.
The hotel's bath page refuses bathers with tattoos, then makes one exception: a tattoo small enough to hide under a cover seal may go in. It gives the seal as 8 cm × 10 cm (3.1 × 3.9 in) and says seals are kept at some hotels of the group, so ask at the desk on arrival or bring your own. The group FAQ limits a guest to two seals as a rule and warns that stock can run out. There is no private bath.

The bath
The bath is called Azumi-no-yu and takes up the 10th and top floor, with separate sides for men and women. The hotel says the water is natural hot spring water carried in from the Hotaka hot spring district north of the city, an alkaline simple spring it lists for the skin, fatigue, recovery after illness and general health.
Each side has one hot indoor bath with a neck rest, an open-air bath, a cold bath and a dry sauna with a television, where bathers ladle scented water onto the stones themselves. The men's cold bath is 90 cm deep and chilled. Chairs for cooling down stand outside, three on the men's side and two on the women's. The hotel points out that the open-air space faces the Northern Alps with Matsumoto Station directly below, and that the women's side is screened but has small windows cut for the view.
The bath is open from 3 p.m. to 10 a.m. the next morning, and the sauna closes from 1 to 5 a.m. There is no private bath and no room with a spring tub, so the cover seal is the only way in for a tattooed guest.
The hotel
Nono is the Japanese-style line of the Dormy Inn group. Guests take off their shoes at the entrance, and the corridors and all rooms are floored in tatami. Rooms are doubles, queens, twins and a universal twin that sleeps three, all with Serta beds, from about 15 to 32 square meters. Breakfast is a Japanese and Western buffet with two local dishes, a Shinshu salmon bowl and soba noodles with mountain vegetables. Check-in is from 3 p.m. and check-out is 11 a.m.
