Eihokaku

氷見温泉郷 魚巡りの宿 永芳閣

Does Eihokaku allow tattoos? Yes, covered

Cover seal required

Eihokaku stands on the Himi shore with two large baths that swap sides between evening and morning, and its page spells out the rule: one 8 cm × 10 cm (3.1 × 3.9 in) seal that you bring yourself gets a tattoo into the shared bath. Two sea-view family baths can be booked by the 40 minutes.

The inn refuses tattooed guests in its large baths as a rule, with one exception written on its hot spring page: a tattoo that disappears under a single 8 cm × 10 cm (3.1 × 3.9 in) cover seal is fine. Guests bring their own seal; the inn does not supply them. Staying guests can also book one of two indoor family baths with a sea view for 40 minutes, which takes the question off the table.

The bath

The spring is a sodium chloride spring, colorless and odorless, 55.7°C at the source, which the inn lists for skin complaints, neuralgia, women's ailments and general health. The water is topped up, heated and recirculated, and disinfected with chlorine and ultrasound. There are two large baths, Migi-no-yu and Hidari-no-yu (the right and left baths), each with an indoor tub and an open-air bath looking over the sea; the right bath's indoor side has a jet bath. One side is men's from noon to 11 p.m. and the other women's, and they swap for the morning session from 5 to 9 a.m. The inn's own page sets the swap out in a table, so check the sign on the door.

The two family baths, Uminari-no-yu with a round jacuzzi tub and Gaun-no-yu with a relaxation tub, are indoors with a window on the sea. A session is 40 minutes for ¥2,200 including tax, 2 to 11 p.m. and 5 to 9 a.m., for staying guests only. Booking opens by phone at 11 a.m. on the day of your stay and the slots go in order of calls; some plans include one free session, but if your hour is gone the inn gives no substitute. Eating and drinking in the bath rooms is not allowed.

The hotel

A 51-room inn of the BBH hotel group on the Ao shore of Himi, with the 32-room Kaiko main building and the 19-room Tenyu annex. Every room has a family-size bathroom; the annex special rooms sleep up to eight. Dinner plans are built around Himi fish: the Sai course is the most popular, the Takumi course adds a boat-shaped sashimi platter, and the Raku course is five dishes with optional extras. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out 10 a.m.; booking on the inn's own site extends them to 2 p.m. and 11 a.m. at no charge.

How we know

Confirmed from official site (the inn’s hot spring page, read October 2026)

Best for: a small tattoo under one seal, or a 40-minute family bath with the Sea of Japan in the window

Two private family baths, Uminari-no-yu with a jacuzzi tub and Gaun-no-yu with a relaxation tub, both indoor with a sea view: 40 minutes, ¥2,200 including tax, staying guests only, 2 to 11 p.m. and 5 to 9 a.m., booked by phone only from 11 a.m. on the day of the stay, first come first served, no food or drink inside. The inn says the water in the large baths and the family baths is topped up, heated and recirculated, with chlorine and ultrasonic disinfection. The special rooms of the Tenyu annex have a family-size bathroom that the inn says is not hot spring water.
