Does Hotel Sakan allow tattoos? In a private bath
The private bath sits beside Natori-no-Miyu with a sound system in it, so you book 40 minutes, play your own music and have the source-fed water to yourselves.
Sakan publishes no tattoo rule anywhere on its site, including the terms of stay page, so nothing can be quoted about its four shared bath halls. What it does publish is a single reservable private bath beside the Natori-no-Miyu wing, barrier-free, holding three, taken in hourly slots between 16:00 and 22:00 for 2,000 yen plus tax per 40 minutes. It also sells rooms in the Hiten wing with an open-air bath of their own. Book one of those and the shared-bath question never comes up.

What happens when you arrive
Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes. Once the door is closed, the bath is yours.
How we know
Confirmed from official site — bath structure, not a tattoo policy (the inn’s own 貸切風呂(バリアフリー) page and its 露天風呂付客室 room page); no tattoo rule appears on the site or in its 宿泊約款・ご利用上のお願い

Best for: A locking barrier-free bath with your own music playing, in the oldest house in the valley
Nine hundred years of the same family, and the Date lords bathed here; the inn keeps a gallery of Date pieces. The private bath is Western in style, tiled, with one washing station and a sound system you can play your own music through. Kawara-no-yu, the thatched open-air bath on the riverbank, holds ten and is for staying guests only, men 05:00–11:00 and women 15:00–23:00. Day use exists but only as a package: a lunch and private-room plan at 6,380 yen or a lounge brunch at 4,400 yen, both including the bath. There is a free shuttle from Sendai Station and an AI chat assistant on the site, which is the fastest way to put the tattoo question to the house before you book.
Check availabilityBooking through this button costs you nothing extra and sends a small commission our way — it’s what keeps this guide free for our tattoo community, and every policy on it checked. Thank you.
