Sumoto Onsen, on the harbor Hotel (Hotel New Awaji group)

Does Umi no Hotel Shimahana allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

A harbor-front hotel on the Sumoto spring with a villa wing whose rooms have open-air baths of their own and a rentable private bath, Toro-onsen, for everyone else — in a group whose large baths refuse a tattoo.

Two ways round the group’s rule under one roof: the Residence Villa rooms have an open-air hot spring bath of their own, and the hotel rents a private spa, Toro-onsen, a half-open-air bath booked by the slot. The group refuses tattooed guests at its large baths and says nothing about either of these; ask when you book.

※泥酔状態・入れ墨のあるお客様のご入浴はお断りさせて頂いております。

The operator’s own wording. Showing it settles the question.

What happens when you arrive

Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes; once the door is closed nobody is checking anything.

How we know

Confirmed Confirmed from official site — the villa baths and the rental bath are structure, not a policy; the quoted refusal is the group's FAQ for its large baths

Read on: shimahana.com/facilities/ and newawaji.com/contact/

Best for: A private bath you can book by the hour, at a hotel price

The facilities page lists 貸切温泉 蕩温泉 as a semi-open-air rental bath and the レジデンスヴィラ rooms with 温泉露天風呂 of their own; fifty-three rooms in all. Bus from Umeda about two hours, from Sannomiya about ninety minutes, on the hotel's own access page.
