Does Nanakusa no Yu allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

The sixth-floor private bath at Nanakusa no Yu is named Chijo no Hoshizora, stars on the ground, and the terrace outside it looks down on the night lights of Ueda and the Shioda plain.

Nanakusa no Yu says nothing about tattoos. Two rooms, Asagiriso and Komachiso, have a cypress open-air tub on the sun deck, filled from the spring and yours at any hour. Everyone else can book the sixth-floor private bath for 40 minutes at 1,650 yen, by phone or at check-in.

JR East Pass Covers the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Ueda. The Ueda Electric Railway on to Bessho is a private line and is paid separately; the JR Tokyo Wide Pass stops short of Ueda. Sold on Klook.

What happens when you arrive

Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes. Once the door is closed, the bath is yours.

How we know

Confirmed from official site, bath structure rather than a tattoo policy (the inn’s room page and its FAQ post describe both room baths and the private bath)

Best for: A night view over the Shioda plain from a bath nobody else is in

Sixteen rooms. The two open-air rooms are 12 mats plus a twin bedroom with a shower room, for 2 to 7 people; online booking cannot pick which of the two, so phone if it matters. Private bath slots start on the hour from 14:00 to 21:00; some plans include one free turn. The shared baths each have an open-air bath and a sauna and stay on the same side all night, 14:00 to 9:30 (sauna to 22:30). Simple sulfur spring, 50.6°C. All rooms non-smoking. The inn’s cafe on the Kitamuki Kannon approach is open 9:00–16:00.
