A 1925 inn where two private baths, one of them semi-open-air over the river, are free and unlocked for any guest at any hour of the stay.

Two private baths, free to every guest for the whole stay with no reservation and no extra charge, on top of a separate shared indoor bath. The inn's own site is explicit that staying guests can use the private baths freely at any time during their stay, which settles the question regardless of what the shared bath's policy is.

Where it is

Tokyo is the door to all of these. Akiu is the Hayabusa or Yamabiko to Sendai, about 1 h 30, then one bus of 43 minutes from the station. Takayu is the Shinkansen to Fukushima and a bus of 30 minutes up the mountain. Naruko is the Yamabiko to Furukawa and three quarters of an hour up the Rikuu East line. Zao is the Tsubasa, the Yamagata Shinkansen, straight through to Yamagata with no change, then a bus of 37 minutes up to the ski village. Ginzan is the same train as far as Oishida and the town’s own Hanagasa bus. Nyuto is the Komachi, JR’s Shinkansen across to Akita, as far as Tazawako, then a bus of 47 minutes. Hanamaki is the Yamabiko to Kitakami, one stop back on the local line and a bus. Higashiyama is the long one: the Shinkansen to Koriyama, the Ban-etsu West line over to Aizu-Wakamatsu and the loop bus, three hours and more with the waits.
