Hotel Cetus Royal
ホテルセタスロイヤル
Does Hotel Cetus Royal allow tattoos? Yes, covered
Hotel Cetus Royal keeps a rock-lined open-air pool the size of a pond a hundred meters up the slope from its beachfront building, and its hot spring page admits a tattoo that fits under one cover seal.
The hotel refuses tattooed guests in its shared baths as a rule, with one written exception: a tattoo hidden under a single 8 cm × 10 cm (3.1 × 3.9 in) cover seal is accepted. You bring the seal yourself, because the hotel does not supply one. Anything too large for one seal is turned away, and the pool refuses tattoos of any size, so larger work means booking one of the two private family baths at check-in.

タトゥーなどを入れたお客様の大浴場のご利用は、原則お断りしています。ただし、8㎝☓10㎝のカバーシール1枚で見えないようカバーしていただいた場合は、この限りではありません。シールはお客様ご自身で持参願います。

The bath
The hotel's signature is its large open-air bath, which it calls the biggest on the Izu Peninsula. It sits about 100 meters from the main building, in the trees, and is split into two rock pools: Tsukiakari-no-yu and Hoshiakari-no-yu. One is for women from 4 p.m. to midnight and for men from 6 to 9 a.m., and the other runs the opposite way. The water comes from the Higuchi source, a sodium chloride and sulfate spring at pH 9.0 that leaves the ground at 95.4°C, and the hotel says the pools are fed without recirculation. Soap and shampoo are not allowed out there, and the pools close in bad weather.
Indoors, the Hikoboshi-no-yu (men) and Orihime-no-yu (women) halls look over Sagami Bay toward the Izu islands and use a second source, Shimami. They open from 3 p.m. to midnight and 6 to 9 a.m., with a sauna for about six people in the evening and a cold plunge.
Two private family baths, Nozomi-no-yu and Senri-no-yu, are let for 45 minutes a group in hourly slots from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 8:30 a.m. You book at the front desk when you check in; the hotel takes no advance reservations for them. From 8 p.m. to midnight the big open-air bath can also be reserved for 30 minutes.
The hotel
A 48-room hotel of the BBH group facing You-Yu Beach, with every room looking out to Izu Oshima. Rooms are Japanese style of 10 to 12.5 tatami or Japanese-Western corner rooms with twin beds; guests lay out their own futon. One top-floor room has its own free-flowing open-air tub. Meals are a half buffet with free-flow drinks, and there is a free happy hour from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and late-night udon noodles. The heated oceanfront pool opens all year. Check-in is 3 p.m., with the last check-in at 10 p.m., and check-out is 10 a.m.
