Three private family baths stay unlocked all night with no booking sheet, which turns the hotel’s seal rule into a choice rather than a condition.

Two seals, 8cm × 10cm each, and the large bath is open to you; without them it is not. The hotel puts the apology and the exception in one sentence and sends anything unclear to the front desk. It also runs three free family baths that take no reservation, so a tattoo too large for two patches still has somewhere to go.

Tokyo to Atami Shinkansen tickets The fast way to Izu is the Shinkansen to Atami, about 40 minutes from Tokyo, then the JR Ito line local, about 25 minutes to Ito. The Odoriko limited express does the whole ride with no change. Sold on Klook.

Three family baths, Ichi-no-yu, Ni-no-yu and San-no-yu, free flowing, open 24 hours, no booking. The large Kenshin bath and its outdoor half run 06:00–10:00 and 12:00–24:00, or from 15:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and the men’s and women’s sides swap daily. Water held at 40 to 41°C. Premium rooms have a bath on the house spring.
