Saiki Bekkan sells the cover seal at its own front desk, which turns the usual problem of arriving without one into a purchase at check-in.

This is one of the few places in Misasa that will let a tattooed guest into the large bath at all. The group rule is printed on the hotel’s day-use page: a tattoo bars you from the large bath unless the hotel’s own cover seal, which it sells, hides it completely. That means the seal has to be bought at the desk here, and it has to cover the whole tattoo, not most of it. Anything larger than one seal will hide is out.

Matsue is the door, 2 h 35 from Okayama on the Yakumo limited express. Tamatsukuri is one stop west. JR Sanyo-San’in Area Pass Seven days on JR West trains across both coasts for 23,000 yen, with reserved seats on the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Hakata and on the Yakumo limited express from Okayama to Matsue. Best for: A small tattoo that one bought seal will cover, in a house that sells the seal

The same notice warns that entry can be refused when the baths are crowded, so a busy weekend is a poor bet. A rock-bed sauna can be added to a day-use plan for ¥1,100 but is not sold on its own, and the gown and towel for it come free. Day-use plans with a buffet lunch or dinner are sold through the group site.
