Hilton Takayama Resort
ヒルトン高山リゾート
Does Hilton Takayama Resort allow tattoos? Yes, covered
Hilton Takayama Resort spreads twelve hot spring tubs over two floors of a hillside terrace, among them an infinity bath whose edge lines up with Takayama's valley and the Northern Alps.
The hotel asks guests with tattoos to stay out of its shared baths as a rule, with two published exceptions: cover the tattoo with a cover seal, or book a private open-air bath. The seals are sold in the hotel's own gift shop. The hotel gives no size limit for the seal.

The bath
The baths are called Tenbo-no-yu and fill two floors of a separate wing, the Onsen Terrace. The hotel counts ten open-air tubs and two indoor baths between them. Ten-no-yu on the seventh floor has the infinity bath, with cypress and rock tubs beside it. Bou-no-yu on the fifth floor has cypress tubs and pot tubs. Men and women swap floors daily. The water is a weakly alkaline simple spring that the hotel lists for neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, stiff shoulders, chills and fatigue. There is a low-temperature sauna. Hours are 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to midnight.
Day visitors can bathe from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m., with last entry at 9 p.m., for ¥1,500 per adult, ¥600 for elementary school children and ¥400 for ages three to preschool. The fee includes a rental towel.
The private open-air baths are on the sixth floor of the same wing, facing forest. They take one to four people, cost ¥4,400 for 45 minutes or ¥6,600 for 90 minutes, and run 1 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. with last entry at 10 p.m. A reservation is required and bathing tax is charged on top. Shampoo, conditioner, body soap and a hair dryer are supplied.
The hotel
The resort stands at 640 meters on a hill above the city, and the hotel says all 283 rooms look toward the Northern Alps. Rooms run from 35-square-meter standard rooms, including a Japanese-style room, through 46-square-meter deluxe rooms and executive rooms with lounge access, to suites of 70 square meters and more. It has a Main Tower, an Alps Tower and the Onsen Terrace. Restaurants cover Japanese cooking at Waki, teppanyaki (cooked on an iron griddle) at Gaku, the Dining Room Vistas and a lounge bar. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is noon. Parking for 200 cars is free.
