Does Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Premium Toba Saichoraku allow tattoos? Yes, covered

Cover seal required

Toba Saichoraku is the Ooedo Onsen Monogatari group's buffet resort on the hill above the bay, and its large baths admit a tattoo only when the hotel's own paid cover seals hide it completely.

The hotel bars tattooed bathers from its large baths unless the tattoo is completely hidden under the cover seal the hotel itself specifies, which it sells. A tattoo the seals cannot fully cover is turned away. No private bath is offered.

The bath

Day visitors can walk in without booking from 7 to 10 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to midnight, last entry 10 p.m. Adults pay ¥900 on weekdays, ¥1,200 on weekends and holidays and ¥1,400 on the hotel's peak days; children of primary school age and younger pay ¥600 to ¥700, and under-threes are free. Towels are not included and rent for ¥330. The hotel photo of the large bath shows a long stone-edged indoor tub under a wooden ceiling, with a picture window onto a wooded hillside. A day plan that pairs the bath with the dinner buffet is sold by reservation, and the indoor heated pool can be added for ¥600 an adult, though not used on its own.

No seal size is printed beside the hotel's rule, so ask at the front desk how many seals a tattoo may take before you undress.

The hotel

One of the Ooedo Onsen Monogatari group's Premium hotels, set on the Shiroyama hill at Ohama above Toba Bay. Dinner is a buffet; for day guests it runs from 5 to 9:30 p.m. The hotel has an indoor heated pool. Bookings go through the group's own reservation site, and the hotel's buses run to Toba Station through the day.
