Does TAOYA Akiu allow tattoos? Yes, covered

The four private baths here take the Natori-no-Miyu spring with nothing reheated and nothing recirculated, which is not true of the two large bath halls in the same building.

The hotel’s own bath page bars tattooed guests from the large baths unless the tattoo is completely covered by the hotel’s designated seals, which are sold on site. The group behind it puts numbers on that: two seals of 10cm × 14cm, 220 yen each at the front desk. Four private baths are booked separately and are the cleaner route for anything a seal will not cover.

Best for: Booking a private tub of unheated, unrecirculated spring water on the night you arrive

This is the old Iwanumaya, a house that carried its name for about four hundred years until the business was sold to the Ooedo Onsen Monogatari group and it reopened as TAOYA Akiu in June 2023. Four private baths: Miyabi and Hibiki take four people, Shizuku and Shiori take two. They run 16:00–24:00, cost 3,300 yen an hour, and cannot be reserved in advance; booking opens on the day and closes at 23:00. The group says the private tubs take the spring with no reheating and no recirculation, while the large baths are diluted, partly reheated and filtered. Large baths 15:00–24:00 and 05:00–10:00, men and women swapped between the Kaze-no-Oto and Taki-no-Oto wings. Stays are all-inclusive: drinks, a late-night snack and the bar are in the room rate.
