Does Pearl Star Hotel ATAMI allow tattoos? In a private bath
Pearl Star asks guests to keep every tattoo covered anywhere in the hotel, so bathe in your room: every room has its own bath of the hotel’s own hot spring. The Premier Suite, 170 m² with two bedrooms and a tatami room, sleeps six.
The rule, in the hotel’s FAQ and terms of use, covers even small tattoos and names the Infinity Bath. In the lobby and restaurants, wear something that covers them.
The bath
Every room’s bath runs on the hotel’s own spring, drawn from 220 meters (720 ft) underground, and 81 of the 87 rooms face Sagami Bay. Rooms marked ROTEN have an open-air tub on the terrace. VIEW BATH rooms have an indoor tub with a window toward Atami Bay, and the hillside TERRACE BATH suites an indoor tub on an enclosed terrace.
For a family, the Premier Suite Ocean View ROTEN is 170 m² on two levels for up to six, with two bedrooms, a living room, a tatami room, two shower rooms, a kitchen and an open-air terrace bath. Rooms for up to four include the Hillside Suites (120 and 132 m²), the Deluxe and Superior Shitsurai rooms (76 m², twin beds plus futons on tatami) and the Connecting Room, two twin rooms joined by an inner door, each with its own open-air bath. No single room takes more than six, so two families need two rooms.
The Infinity Bath on the 10th floor has a 12-meter (39 ft) tub facing the sea, separate men’s and women’s sides, saunas and a cold bath, open to hotel guests 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to midnight. The hotel’s tattoo rule covers it.
The hotel
Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout noon; some plans differ. Breakfast is a buffet in Sinfonia on the 6th floor, and dinner is at the hotel’s restaurants. Parking is free for staying guests in the indoor garage, for cars up to 2.1 meters (6 ft 11 in) tall. The whole building is non-smoking, and there’s one wheelchair-accessible room.
Good to know
- Free taxi from Atami Station at check-in and checkout. Board at the taxi rank to the left of the ticket gate and tell the driver you’re staying at the hotel.
- No pets, except assistance dogs.
- Smart casual in the lobby and restaurants.
Getting there
Atami STN · Tokaido Shinkansen
About 10 minutes on foot.
From Tokyo, take the Tokaido Shinkansen to Atami, about 35 minutes on a Hikari or 50 on a Kodama. From Atami Station, walk about 10 minutes, take the hotel’s free taxi, or ride a bus toward Atami Port to Omiya no Matsu, about 5 minutes; the stop is in front of the hotel.
