道後温泉 ホテル椿館

Does Hotel Tsubakikan allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

A big family ryokan with a drum show and an atrium lobby, where the two special rooms have a rock bath and a cypress bath plumbed straight from the Dogo supply.

The FAQ answers in two lines: the large bath is closed to tattooed guests, and the room bath is what is left. That narrows the booking to two room types, because only the Iwaburo and Hinoki special rooms have tubs plumbed with Dogo water. Every other room here has an ordinary unit bath, so a tattooed guest who books a standard room gets no onsen bathing on the property at all.

Best for: Booking the rock-bath or cypress-bath special room and bathing in it whenever you like

Book Type 01, the 岩風呂付き特別室 with its own walled garden, or Type 02, the 檜風呂付き特別室; both are two-room suites and both carry Dogo water into the tub. The other six room types have a unit bath. No day bathing. Check-in 15:00–18:00, check-out 10:00, dinner is a buffet or a set Japanese menu, and the bath tax adds 150 yen. Parking is 880 yen a night. The Suigun taiko drums are usually played at 20:40 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
