Does Hotel Takeshima allow tattoos? In a private bath
Hotel Takeshima faces the small shrine island that is Gamagori's emblem, and its newest rooms put a hot spring tub on the balcony with that island in the frame. The hotel has no private bath, so these rooms are the way in.
The hotel publishes no tattoo rule for its large baths, and its FAQ says it has no private bath to reserve. What it does have is a set of guest rooms with their own open-air bath of hot spring water, so a tattooed guest can book one of those and bathe in the room.
The bath
The rooms to ask for are the ones the hotel lists as having a natural hot spring open-air bath. They come in two layouts, A and B, and were renewed in February 2024 with a white interior. The bath is on the room's own balcony and the hotel lists it as hot spring water. Its photo shows a black glazed tub in a timber-walled alcove, with a wooden spout and Takeshima island in the opening. You fill your time as you like: there is no slot to book.
A second room type on the top floor has a half-open-air bath beside twin beds and a small tatami area. The hotel states that the bath in those rooms is not hot spring water. Its FAQ says there is no private bath in the building.
The shared baths draw two springs: a weakly radioactive cold mineral spring at 24.8°C and an alkaline simple spring, the Bihakusen the hotel calls a beauty bath. The open-air baths, Kirara-no-yu for men and Urara-no-yu for women, sit at the water's edge and are open to guests from 3 p.m. to midnight and 6 to 10 a.m. The view large baths are Yaotomi-no-yu and Benten-no-yu. Day visitors are admitted from noon to 4 p.m., last entry 3 p.m., for ¥1,600 with a tea voucher; bath towels are lent free.
The hotel
Hotel Takeshima has 82 rooms, all with an ocean view, in nine types from Western singles and twins to Japanese-Western rooms, a large group room and a universal room. The hot spring bath rooms and the half-open-air bath floor are the newest. There is a garden pool beside the sea, an esthetic salon, a pub and a karaoke club. Dinner is served from 5 p.m. and breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Check-in is from 3 p.m., with the last check-in at 10 p.m., and check-out is 10 a.m. Takeshima island is a 15-minute walk.
