Nishiura Grand Hotel Kikkei
西浦グランドホテル 吉慶
Does Nishiura Grand Hotel Kikkei allow tattoos? In a private bath
Kikkei stands a minute from Palm Beach at Nishiura, all 37 rooms facing Mikawa Bay. Its design-award room Wan and its premium Japanese rooms each have an open-air tub on the sea side.
The hotel publishes no tattoo rule for its shared baths and has no private bath to reserve. Its answer for a tattooed guest is a room with a bath of its own: the special room Wan on the 6th floor has a half-open-air bath, and the premium ocean-view Japanese rooms have an open-air bath on the terrace.
The bath
Two kinds of room come with a bath of their own. The special room, Wan, is on the 6th floor: 90 square meters for up to six guests, with a half-open-air bath looking over Mikawa Bay. The hotel says the room has won six design awards in Japan and abroad. The premium ocean-view Japanese rooms have an open-air bath on the terrace; the photo shows a round dark tub with a wooden spout, a glass screen and the palms of the beach below. The hotel does not say what water fills these room tubs.
The shared baths use Bihakusen, which the hotel describes as gentle enough for children and sensitive skin and slow to let the body cool. On the top floor are a view open-air bath, Umi-koukou, and a view bath, Hikari-reirei. They alternate: the open-air bath is for men from 3 to 8 p.m. and for women from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m., and Hikari-reirei runs the opposite way. Both are open from check-in to 11 p.m. and 6 to 9 a.m. On the 2nd floor the large baths Kegon-no-yu and Shiraito-no-yu stay open until midnight. Day visitors may use the 2nd-floor baths from 3 to 6 p.m., last entry 5:30 p.m., for ¥1,100 with a face towel; a bath towel rents for ¥200.
The hotel
The hotel has 37 rooms, 30 Japanese and 7 Japanese-Western, in six types, and says every room and the top-floor baths look over Mikawa Bay. Besides the two bath-room types there are premium rooms on the top floor, a barrier-free Japanese-Western room and standard Japanese rooms. A lounge on the 2nd floor has massage chairs facing the sea. There is a karaoke lounge and table tennis. Palm Beach, a swimming beach lined with palms, is a minute's walk. Parking in front holds 70 cars and is charged in summer.
