Does Kappo Ryokan Wakamatsu allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

The only two rooms at Wakamatsu with a bath of their own sit at the top of the Nanbo wing, where the tub looks out at the strait from the second floor.

Two rooms at Wakamatsu have a bath of their own, and they are the only tattoo-proof way in. The maisonette rooms in the Nanbo wing are the house’s only rooms with a view bath, and the Honkan special room Yachiyo has a cypress indoor tub. The ryokan publishes no tattoo rule and rents no private bath, and it does not say whether the room tubs carry the house spring, so read them as tubs rather than as onsen.

How we know

Confirmed from official site — bath structure, not a tattoo policy (the 客室 page; the FAQ covers reservations only)

Best for: A two-story room with a bath upstairs, in a house that has been drawing its own water since 1922

Two maisonette rooms, about 110 square meters each, Japanese room downstairs and beds upstairs. Yachiyo, one room of about 90 square meters, recreates the suite the Showa emperor used in 1954 and has a cypress indoor bath. The shared baths are Hana-no-yu for women in cypress and Tsuki-no-yu for men in granite, plus a marble open-air bath over the strait, 05:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 24:00. The house spring runs at 57.6°C from a well under the pavilion by the entrance, and the bath page gives it as 湯の川温泉(加水)、温泉掛け流し. Hakodate introduced an accommodation tax on 1 April 2026 and the ryokan bills it on top of the room rate.
