Does Ibusuki Seaside Hotel allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

A plain seafront hotel with three separate answers stacked in one building: a sand bath open to anyone who walks in, an open-air bath that can be reserved by one party, and four rooms up top with a bath of their own.

No policy is published, so the answer is the reservable open-air bath, open 15:00 to 22:00 and held by one party at a time. Four rooms on the top floor also have an open-air bath on their own terrace. The sand bath and the view bath are shared, and nothing the operator publishes covers either of them.

Hakata to Ibusuki is about 3 h 25: the Kyushu Shinkansen to Kagoshima-Chuo, then the Ibusuki Makurazaki line down the coast, which the sightseeing train Ibusuki no Tamatebako also runs. Ureshino is about 1 h 20, a limited express to Takeo-Onsen and the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen one stop further. Kurokawa has no railway at all: the coach from Hakata takes about 2 h 40 by way of Hita and Tsuetate. Ibusuki Seaside Hotel · map data © OpenStreetMap contributors · open in Google Maps

What happens when you arrive

Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes. Once the door is closed, the bath is yours.

How we know

Confirmed from official site, bath structure rather than a tattoo policy (the operator’s hot spring page listing the reservable open-air bath, and the room page listing the four rooms with their own)

Best for: A top-floor room with its own open-air bath facing the sunrise

Rooms 601, 602, 603 and 605 have a private open-air bath, 59 to 76 square meters each. The reservable open-air bath is open 15:00 to 22:00. The sand bath runs 16:00 to 21:00 with last reception at 20:30 and costs 2,000 yen year round, the same for guests and for day visitors, and the hotel sets out the five steps, ending with rinsing the sand off in the bath. The view bath is open 16:00 to 23:00 and 6:00 to 9:00.
