Every bath is private. The inn's own site describes four separate free private bath houses, no reservation, first-come. There is no shared bath to have a policy about.

Where it is

Ueno to Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi is about 2 h 20 on the Kusatsu-Shima, JR’s limited express (a faster train with fewer stops and a fee on top of the fare), which runs a few times a day, and the JR bus up the valley is 25 minutes more; change at the marked station. The green loop is the JR Yamanote line, the circle that links Tokyo’s main stations; the dashes are the train and bus that take you close to the hotel. JR Tokyo Wide Pass covers the Kusatsu-Shima, JR’s limited express, as far as Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi. The bus up the valley is paid separately. Sold on Klook.
