Does Dormy Inn Miyazaki allow tattoos? Yes, covered

Cover seal required

Dormy Inn Miyazaki trucks sulfur spring water up from Aoshima to a 12th-floor bath with an open-air tub, and lets a tattooed guest in under a cover seal handed out at the desk.

The hotel’s own bath page asks guests with tattoos or body paint to put on a tattoo cover seal before bathing. The seals are handed out at the front desk. The page sets no size limit.

The bath

The bath is Hyuga-no-yu on the 12th floor, the top of the building, with the city spread out below the windows. Its water is an alkaline simple sulfur cold mineral spring carried up from Soyamaji Onsen at Aoshima, south of the city, and heated on site. The hotel calls it a beauty bath and says skin comes out slick; it lists the water for muscle pain, joint pain, stiff shoulders and stiff joints.

Men's and women's sides each have one indoor hot tub, one open-air bath, a two-tier dry sauna with a television, a chilled cold plunge and two chairs outside for cooling down. The bath is open from 3 p.m. to 10 a.m. the next morning; the sauna stops between 1 and 5 a.m. The page lists no day-use admission, so treat it as a guests-only bath.

There is no private bath here. The cover seal is the whole answer: put one on at the desk and use the shared bath like anyone else.

The hotel

A Dormy Inn of the usual kind: compact doubles, queens, twins, Hollywood twins, triples and a universal room, most on Simmons mattresses and a few on Airweave. The chain's free late-night noodles and after-bath treats are served, and breakfast leans on local Miyazaki dishes. Parking is at the affiliated Cozy Park Tachibana lot for ¥1,100 a night, 3 p.m. to 11 a.m.

What happens when you arrive

Cover the tattoo completely before you go in. The hotel doesn't specify a size, so cover everything.

How we know

Confirmed from official site (the hotel’s own large-bath page)

Best for: a cheap downtown bed with a real hot spring on the roof and free noodles at night

The water is an alkaline simple sulfur cold mineral spring trucked in from Soyamaji Onsen at Aoshima, so the hotel heats it. Bath 3 p.m. to 10 a.m.; the sauna pauses from 1 to 5 a.m. Seals are free at the desk.
