Does Naruko Hotel allow tattoos? In a private bath
The name Kokeshi-no-yu is a joke on the town’s wooden dolls, but the bath is not small: fifteen people can book it at once, which is an odd thing for a bath sold as private.
Nothing on the hotel’s site addresses tattoos, and its two big open-air bath halls are shared, so the honest reading is that they are unanswered. The private bath is not: Kokeshi-no-yu is booked by the group for 50 minutes, priced by how many of you there are, and it is large enough that the hotel jokes it hardly counts as a private bath. Pay for it and the tattoo question does not arise.

Best for: A group that wants one big tub to itself rather than a two-person box
Kokeshi-no-yu takes 16:00 to 22:50 and 06:00 to 08:50, by reservation in advance or at the desk on the day, 3,300 yen for two to four people and 4,400 yen for five to fifteen. The house baths are Basho-no-yu and the hinoki Tama-no-yu, each with its own open-air section, plus a blue-flagstone open-air bath, a koyamaki-wood barrel bath and a sitting bath for half-immersion. Three springs of its own, sulfate, sodium chloride and sulfur chloride, and the operator says the color of the water shifts with the outside air. Founded in 1873. The tourism association notes day bathing is off on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
