Does Ryokan Ohnuma allow tattoos? In a private bath
The private bath is not in the building. It is ten minutes up the hill behind it, small, roofless, and run with no soap at all, on the theory that you have not come here to get clean.
Ohnuma has seven indoor baths and publishes no rule for any of them, so those stay unanswered. Its answer for anyone who would rather not find out is Mori-no-yu, a private open-air bath on the hillside behind the inn, taken one party at a time for thirty minutes at 1,650 yen a head. It is a walk of about ten minutes, or the front desk will drive you.

Best for: A cure stay of several nights where the bath you take alone is a walk into the woods
The inn calls Mori-no-yu a bath for washing the mind, and enforces that literally: no soap or shampoo is provided and you may not bring your own. Children of primary-school age pay 550 yen and younger ones nothing. Bears closed the bath from mid-December 2025, and the inn announced on 7 March 2026 that it had been back in use for over two months with no further sightings; the inn next door in Naruko shut its own detached bath over bear reports in May 2026, so ask when you book. The day-use rest plan is suspended. Ohnuma sells a modern version of toji, the cure stay, including self-catering nights, a fasting program, a workation plan and a family stay for parents before and after a birth, so a single night with dinner is only one of several ways to be here.
