Does hotel around TAKAYAMA allow tattoos? Yes!
At hotel around TAKAYAMA the second-floor baths look onto a small planted garden, and the hot spring page says guests with fashion tattoos may bathe, with cover seals at the front desk for anyone who wants one.
The hotel's hot spring page says guests with fashion tattoos may bathe in the large baths, and that anyone who would rather cover up can get a cover seal at the front desk. The seal is offered, not required. There is also a private bath, ¥2,000 for 45 minutes, booked at the front desk on the day.
The bath
The baths are on the second floor and are kept for staying guests. The hotel describes the water as Hida Takayama Onsen brought in by tanker, a simple spring it lists for joint pain, muscle pain and neuralgia. The men's bath and the women's bath are each sized for about ten people, with six wash stations, and both face a planted garden through a wide window. The women's side is finished in softer colors. Outside the baths, a lounge shows books and crafts from the Hida region.
The private bath is the one the hotel is proudest of, a large tiled tub with its own garden window. It costs ¥2,000 for 45 minutes. Sessions run from 3 p.m., and the last one starts at midnight. It cannot be reserved before arrival: ask at the front desk on the day. Families, couples and friends use it, and the hotel says a single guest is welcome to book it too.
The hotel
The hotel sets itself up as a base for exploring the town. The first two floors hold a lounge with 100 take-away cards on local shops and sights, a library, a wall gallery on Hida history and a store selling local food and crafts. Rooms run from 18-square-meter queens and 80 standard twins to suites on a separate floor with its own lounge, and Japanese-style rooms for up to six. The first-floor dining bar serves breakfast and dinner with local produce and stays open to the public from 5 p.m. to midnight.
