JR Hokkaido Rail Pass Five, seven or ten days of unlimited JR trains on the island, which covers the Hokuto limited express between Sapporo and Hakodate. The city tram out to Yunokawa is a separate fare, paid on board. Sold on Klook.

Best for: The star-shaped Goryokaku bath at the foot of Mount Hakodate, an iron-brown spring, if you bring your own cover.
Sodium chloride spring at 65.1°C, iron in the water turning it tea brown; three indoor tubs and an open-air tub cut in the star shape of Goryokaku. 06:00 to 22:00, last admission 21:00, closed the second Tuesday of the month. Adults 430 to 490 yen depending on the source, children 140 to 150, infants 70, under three free. Five minutes on foot from the Yachigashira streetcar terminus, 101 free parking spaces. City-run from 1953 until privatized in 2013.
