Book the private bath, Myojo, at the front desk on the day, ¥3,500 for 60 minutes, and there's no rule to meet. The communal bath publishes no tattoo rule either way.

The bath
Two sources of its own, run free-flowing: the main one, Motohakone No. 26, at 55.8°C, is unusually carbonated and carries iron into the tubs, so the water can turn brown. The two large baths on the 1st floor, each for about 40 people, have open-air baths beside them, open noon to midnight and 5:30 to 9 a.m.; staying guests use them from 3 p.m. The private bath, Myojo-yu, has an indoor and an open-air tub on the same water, is accessible, and is ¥3,500 for 60 minutes, booked at the front desk on the day, guests only; a second private bath closed in February 2025. Day bathing runs noon to 4 p.m., ¥1,500.
The hotel
A hotel at Kojiri near Togendai, opened in 1962 and renovated in 2017, with 62 rooms, all Japanese-style. Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is 10 a.m.
Good to know
- Built for groups too. Dining rooms seating up to 350, a gymnasium, ten meeting rooms, two karaoke rooms and mahjong tables.
- Free parking for 50 cars, and a pickup from Togendai ropeway station if you call.
- Brown water some days. Iron from the carbonated spring settles in the tub, which is normal here.
Getting there
The T-line bus is the one toward Kojiri and Togendai. A hotel sign faces the stop, and the entrance is a walk through the grounds.

T-line bus from stop 3 to Shirayuridai, about 40 minutes, then 5 minutes on foot.
From Togendai ropeway station, call and the hotel will pick you up.
Where it is
- Hakone Freepass from ¥7,100 · 2 or 3 days from Shinjuku Worth it if you’re coming from Shinjuku and moving around Hakone. It covers the Odakyu line from Shinjuku and back, then unlimited rides on the Hakone Tozan railway, cable car, ropeway, lake boats and buses. The Romancecar seat fee is extra.
