Does Higashiyama Park Hotel Shinpugetsu allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

One 10-mat room here comes with an open-air tub on its own source, which is a rare thing to find at a buffet hotel price.

The large bath is closed to tattooed guests in one line on the hotel’s own bath page. One room type answers it: a 10-mat Japanese room with its own open-air bath, fed free-flowing from the hotel’s own source, which the hotel says can be used whenever you like. Every other room type has a shower booth and no bath at all, so the room grade is the whole decision here.

Sendai is the door to all of these. Akiu is 43 minutes on one bus from the station, with no change. Nyuto is the Komachi, JR’s Shinkansen across to Akita, as far as Tazawako, then a bus of 47 minutes, about 2 h 20 in all. Naruko is twelve minutes on the Shinkansen to Furukawa and three quarters of an hour up the Rikuu East line. Zao is the Senzan line rapid over the mountains to Yamagata, then a bus of 37 minutes up to the ski village. Hanamaki is the Yamabiko to Kitakami, one stop on the local line and a bus, about 2 h 10. Higashiyama is the long one: the Shinkansen to Koriyama, the Ban-etsu West line over to Aizu-Wakamatsu and the loop bus, nearly four hours with the waits, and easier from Tokyo. Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes. Once the door is closed, the bath is yours.

How we know

Confirmed from official site (the 注意事項 line on the hotel’s 温泉 page; the room bath is on its 客室 page)

Read on: itoenhotel.com/higashiyama/hotspring/

Best for: The cheapest room with its own open-air bath in the valley, in a hotel that pours free drinks with dinner

The room page describes the bath room as: お好きな時にいつでも入れる露天風呂を備えた10畳の和室のお部屋です。自家源泉かけ流しの温泉を十分にご堪能くださいませ。 The hotel has 85 rooms, a sulfate spring from its own source, and buffet dinners with free alcohol. The large bath is closed 10:00 to 15:00 for cleaning. A free shuttle runs to the Higashiyama Onsen and Aizu Bukeyashiki bus stops if you call from the stop.
