Does Ryokan & Sauna Yorozuya Hita allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Yorozuya, an inn since 1922, rebuilt itself in 2023 as eight sauna suites, each with its own sauna, a cold plunge and a hot spring tub looking onto the Mikuma.

Yorozuya publishes no tattoo rule. It has no shared bath: each of its eight suites has its own sauna, cold plunge and hot spring tub, so a tattooed guest bathes in private for the whole stay.

The bath

There is no shared bath. Every bath at Yorozuya is in a suite, and the inn says the stay is meant to be spent in the room.

Each of the eight suites has its own sauna, built to one of four Hita themes by the sauna producer TTNE: the Mikuma River sauna, the Sennen Akari lantern sauna, the Hita geta sauna and a river-view sauna with a window on the water. All take one to four people, and kabosu citrus aroma is set out for pouring on the stones. Beside the sauna is a cold bath that a chiller holds at 16.5°C, and, separately, a tub of hot spring water, which the inn says is rich in metasilicic acid, a moisturizing mineral. A cooling-off space open to the outside air completes the circuit, and on the third to fifth floors it looks over the river. In the suites Utsukushi and Akari both tubs are of hiba wood at a window on the river. Sauna towels, ponchos and hats are in the room.

Visitors who are not staying can book an eight-hour day plan in a suite, 2 to 10 p.m., on the official site.

The hotel

Yorozuya opened as a hot spring inn in 1922 and reopened on April 29, 2023 as a sauna inn of eight river-view suites, two to a floor, each about 70 square meters, in three layouts with Hollywood twin beds and tatami mats. Meals are a sauna kaiseki (a multi-course Japanese meal) served in private dining rooms or in the dining room Yorozu on the second floor. The ground floor has a river-view lounge, a self-serve drink corner and a shop selling TTNE sauna goods, local Onta pottery and drinks. Check-in 3 p.m., check-out 10 a.m.
