The bath

The source is Shaka-no-yu, a simple spring the hotel lists as low-tension, weakly alkaline and hot, 50 degrees at the source, with neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, frozen shoulder, bruises, digestive complaints, poor circulation and recovery after illness on its list. The hotel marks it kakenagashi, flowing through without recirculation. The open-air baths look down the gorge; the indoor halls are broad, and a Harvia sauna was added in 2023. Hours are 6:00 to 11:00 and 15:00 to 24:00. Day bathers are welcome 8:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 24:00 (last entry 22:00), ¥1,500 with a towel set or ¥900 without, children ¥1,200; a rooftop heated pool uses spring water but was out of service in May 2026. The hotel does not say whether the sides swap.

The private bath is a fully enclosed room with a step-free floor and grab rails in the shower, 13:00 to 21:00, two hours for ¥2,500 with towels, booked at the front desk. Every room has its own Shigaraki-ware open-air tub on a private terrace, and the hotel says those tubs run on the spring. The Wa-modern Japanese-Western rooms are 25 m² with a 6 m² terrace, 21 of them, plus one corner room; four Wa-modern suites are 55 m² with a 12 m² terrace for up to five; and two Wa-birei rooms of 35 m² with an 8 m² terrace take dogs.

The hotel
