Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Hotel Kinugawa Gyoen
大江戸温泉物語 ホテル鬼怒川御苑
Does Ooedo Onsen Monogatari Hotel Kinugawa Gyoen allow tattoos? Yes, covered
Ooedo Hotel Kinugawa Gyoen’s private bath holds up to 20 people, big enough for a whole tattooed party to bathe together for 45 minutes.
The rule matches its sister hotel across the river: seals bought from the hotel must cover the tattoo completely, two at most under the group’s bath terms. For more ink than that, the private bath in the Gekko wing takes up to 20 people, 45 minutes for 5,000 yen, booked on the day of your stay.

The bath
The water is an alkaline simple spring that the hotel calls easy on the body; it is diluted, heated and recirculated, and the posted uses are nerve complaints, sleeplessness and low mood. The two open-air baths stand apart from the main building down a corridor of their own, each with a wooden changing room. Hime-no-yu is the women's bath and Tono-no-yu the men's; both sit above the river with mountains in front, and the hotel says you can see stars on a clear night. Indoors, Gekko-no-yu on the first floor of the Gekko wing has windows on the river, and Hyakka-no-yu in the basement of the Hyakka wing is the wider tub; the two swap between men and women. Each has a sauna. Hours are 15:00 to 24:00 and 5:00 to 10:00, saunas 15:00 to 24:00 and 7:00 to 10:00. Day visitors come 7:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 24:00, last entry 22:00, for ¥1,000 on weekdays, ¥1,400 at weekends and ¥1,600 on peak days, towel rental ¥330.
The one private bath, Gosho-no-yu in the Gekko wing, is an indoor tub the hotel rates for 20 people. It is for overnight guests only, 45 minutes for ¥5,000 (¥2,500 for the group's Iifuro members), open 15:00 to 24:00 and booked at the front desk on the day until 23:00. There is no advance booking.
The hotel
An Ooedo Onsen Monogatari group hotel in two wings, the Gekko-no-yakata and the Hyakka-no-yakata, beside the painted-demon staircase that is the town's photo spot. The lobby has a wall of windows over the gorge. Dinner and breakfast are buffets of Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, with sushi, tempura and sashimi, plus yuba (tofu skin) and other local plates. Yukata are free to choose from a rack, and there are karaoke rooms, table tennis, a manga corner and a kimono gallery outside the banquet hall. Check-in is 15:00 and check-out 11:00.
