Yurara Marukyo
鬼怒川温泉 ゆらら 丸京
Does Yurara Marukyo allow tattoos? In a private bath
Marukyo builds its small inn around charcoal, and four of its sixteen rooms add an open-air tub to the theme.
Marukyo publishes no tattoo rule. Four of its sixteen rooms, two Japanese-Western and two Japanese twins, have their own open-air tub; book one of those and nothing needs to be shared.
What the hotel says about its baths
客室 全16室 … 露天風呂付客室(和洋室2室、和室ツイン2室)、和室ツイン 3室、洋室ツイン 2室、和室 7室
The operator’s own wording.
The bath
The water is an alkaline simple spring, colorless and odorless, with muscle pain, frozen shoulder, neuralgia, joint pain, digestive complaints, piles, paralysis and poor circulation on the inn's list. The shared bath is Sumizumi-no-yu, after the charcoal theme that runs through the inn: the spout and boards are charcoal, and the inn says the calcium and magnesium that leach from it make the water softer on the skin. There is an open-air bath beside it. Hours are 15:00 to 24:30 and 5:00 to 9:00. Shampoo, treatment, cleanser, lotion and razors are stocked, and hydrogen water is set out after the bath. The inn says nothing about the sides swapping, and its FAQ says there is no private bath and no day bathing.
Four of the sixteen rooms have an onsen open-air tub of their own, which the inn states in those words. Awasumi and Ruri are 60 m² Japanese-Western twins; Awasumi is dressed in charcoal and cherry pink with Simmons beds, a Refa shower head and a Dyson dryer, and Ruri in deep blue with electric FranceBed beds and a universal-design layout for four. Moegi, in the green of new leaves, and Akebono, in dawn colors, are 40 m² Japanese twins for two, also with electric beds. All four have a towel warmer and a nano steamer.
The hotel
A sixteen-room inn for 45 guests, three minutes from the station, founded by a boy who made charcoal and carried it to market. Every room is named for a day of the week or a theme of body rhythm: Nichi and Tsuki are Japanese twins with Simmons beds, Hi a Western twin with a massage chair, Sui a twin with an 8-mat room, Moku and Tsuchi 10-mat Japanese rooms, Kin a 14-mat room with a raised platform, Sumi a charcoal room, Wa a 14-mat Japanese room. The onsen-tub rooms opened in February 2022 and March 2023. Dinner starts at 18:00 in the Nanoka dining room or, for some rooms, in the room. No preschool children. Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00.
Good to know
- No private bath and no day bathing, so for a tattooed guest the four onsen-tub rooms are the whole answer.
- Walk it from the station: turn right at the Kinuta demon statue, go straight past bus stop 3 and along the north street until the sign.
- Amenities are a help-yourself buffet, take only the razor, brush or cotton you need; the onsen-tub rooms are stocked in full.
- A Lawson two minutes away, and free parking for 30 cars in front.
Getting there
Tobu limited expresses from Asakusa, Kita-Senju or Tokyo Skytree Station reach Kinugawa-Onsen Station in about 2 hours. The inn is about 3 minutes on foot: leave the station, turn right at the Kinuta demon statue, walk straight past the bus stop for the Edo Wonderland loop and along the street north of the station until the Marukyo sign. There is no pickup. Drivers use the hotel map code and park free in front, 30 cars.
