Kigan no Yado Aoshima Jizoan
「祈願の宿」青島・地蔵庵
Does Kigan no Yado Aoshima Jizoan allow tattoos? In a private bath
Jizoan has five rooms, a Jizo for childbirth prayers, and a pH 9 spring that only ever runs into private baths: Takara-yu and the rock bath go to one party at a time for an hour.
The inn publishes no tattoo rule. Its hot spring is used only as private baths: two rooms, Takara-yu and the rock bath, each taken by one party for 60 minutes, so there is no shared tub at all. The detached special room also has its own open-air and indoor bath.
The bath
The spring comes up on the inn's own ground, an alkaline water of pH 9.1 high in sodium bicarbonate that the inn calls one of the silkiest beauty baths in Japan. Its pages quote guests who say blemishes faded and dermatitis eased. The water is changed every day.
It runs into two private bathrooms, Takara-yu, the treasure bath, and the rock bath. Both are rock-rimmed tubs in rooms tiled with speckled granite; one has a wide window onto a pocket garden of bamboo and a board fence, and a rough stone spout pours into the tub. A party takes a room for 60 minutes. Day bathing starts at 9 a.m. and costs from ¥3,500 for two, ¥1,000 for each extra adult and less for children, with face and bath towels included; a lunch of handmade soba noodles and tempura plus the bath is from ¥8,000. Book two days ahead by phone or online. Staff call through the door ten minutes before time, and bath-only visitors get no rest room. The site does not print what staying guests pay.
The detached special room, 100 square meters for two to four, has its own open-air bath and indoor bath; the standard and deluxe rooms have an indoor bath, and the site does not say whether those are spring-fed.
The hotel
Five rooms for 25 guests: a standard room in the main house for two, a detached deluxe for two to four looking onto the garden, and the detached special room with its own baths. The restaurant is an old farmhouse with private and semi-private rooms; lunch is 100 percent buckwheat soba with tempura. There is a loft rest room, a hearth lounge on the courtyard, and a Jizo for prayers for children and safe birth, which the inn also offers to day visitors along with fasting stays. Check-in is at 4 p.m., last arrival 8 p.m., and check-out at 10 a.m.
