Does Hotel Shiki no Yakata Nasu allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Every room at Shiki no Yakata has its own cypress or ceramic tub filled from the hotel’s bicarbonate spring, so the shared bath is never the only option.

Shiki no Yakata publishes no tattoo rule on its live pages. Every room has its own tub of the hotel’s hot spring, so a tattooed guest never has to share.

The bath

Every room has its own tub of the hotel's spring, which the FAQ says guests can use at any hour. The tubs are hinoki cypress in the Takumi, Miyabi and Suisho rooms, ceramic in the Miyabi living-and-twin rooms, and the Kinbai suite has a ceramic open-air tub on its deck as well as a hinoki tub. The water is a sodium and magnesium chloride, sulfate and bicarbonate spring that the hotel calls a beauty bath, faintly colored and smooth; it lists it for low mood, cuts, poor circulation in the hands and feet, cold sensitivity and dry skin.

The shared baths are two half-open-air tubs facing the Japanese garden, Naka-no-yu for women and Godake-no-yu for men, for staying guests only. There is no private bath and no day-use, and the hotel publishes no hours for them. Guests may also walk next door and use the seventh-floor view baths at Hotel Mori no Kaze. Towels, a bath basket and amenities are in the room.

The hotel

An adults-only inn of 30 rooms, no two alike, in the Nasu Miyabi no Sato complex run by Iconia Hospitality; guests must be of junior high age or older. A gate in samurai-residence style leads to a lobby block and covered walkways through the garden to the room wings. Rooms have Simmons beds and a coffee mill, and small dogs (up to 6 kg, two per room) can stay in dedicated rooms for ¥3,300 a night. Dinner is French with a kaiseki (a multi-course Japanese meal) structure, served to every party in a private room at the Parterre restaurant upstairs in two seatings, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., with a sommelier; breakfast is at 7 or 8 a.m.
