Does Shirakaba allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Shirakaba sells its private outdoor bath and sauna as a booking of its own, and kept it open even while the main building shut for renovation in autumn 2026.

Shirakaba publishes nothing on tattoos. It sells a private open-air bath with a sauna by the booking, to staying guests and to day visitors, so you can bathe without sharing.

Everything here is reached from Tokyo. Karuizawa is an hour on the Hokuriku Shinkansen and Echigo-Yuzawa 79 minutes on the Joetsu Shinkansen, both with no change. Kawaguchiko is the Fuji Excursion from Shinjuku, about two hours, and Isawa the Kaiji, an hour and forty. The Nagano towns change once: Bessho at Ueda, Nozawa at Iiyama, and Yudanaka, Hakuba and Myoko at Nagano.. Shirakaba · map data © OpenStreetMap contributors · open in Google Maps

JR East Pass Covers the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Iiyama. The Nozawa Onsen Liner bus up to the village is paid separately. Sold on Klook.

What happens when you arrive

Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes. Once the door is closed, the bath is yours.

How we know

Confirmed from official site — bath structure, not a tattoo policy (the inn’s renovation notice and its own TableCheck booking page)

Best for: A private outdoor soak and sauna for two, even on a day trip

Private open-air bath and sauna: 5,500 yen including tax and service, booked through the inn’s TableCheck page, from one person. The inn calls it 貸切露天風呂 on its site and 貸切露天温泉 on TableCheck; the tourism bureau lists its in-house baths as not hot spring water, so the water type is unsettled. The main building is closed for renovation 24 September to 30 November 2026; during that time the large bath is shut but the private bath and sauna stay open, guests sleep in the annex, and check-in moves to the inn’s own Shichirohei Coffee. A six-hour Day Retreat plan pairs a room with the private bath.

Booking through this button costs you nothing extra and sends a small commission our way — it’s what keeps this guide free for our tattoo community, and every policy on it checked. Thank you.
