Does Mura no Hotel Sumiyoshiya allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Sumiyoshiya stands directly in front of Ogama, the protected boiling springs at the heart of the village, and its private bath runs on a different spring of its own from the one in its large baths.

Sumiyoshiya does not publish a tattoo rule. Its private bath is a stone-and-wood room on a second spring of the inn’s own, booked by the hour. Two rooms in the annex have their own bath, but the inn says plainly that the water in them is not onsen.

Best for: Couples who want an hour alone in a spring the inn owns

Private bath: 4,000 yen per hour, time slots from 13:15 to 22:00 and 06:00 to 09:45, first come first served; guests who book the stay direct with the inn can reserve a slot in advance, everyone else books on the day. Handrails and a shower chair on request. Rooms with bath: two in the annex, Yuubae and Wakana. The FAQ: “客室のお風呂は温泉ではありません。” (the room baths are not onsen water). Shared baths are closed for cleaning 10:00–14:00 and drained completely every day. No day bathers. In winter (mid-December to end of March) the inn takes bookings for two adults or more per room.
