Does Hodakaso Yamano Hotel allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

The mixed open-air bath is the largest in Okuhida, and nobody enters it undressed: the front desk rents the required gown for 300 yen.

Nothing on this hotel’s site addresses tattoos, but its FAQ does state that the mixed open-air bath, the one it is known for, may only be entered wearing a yuamigi bathing gown, rented at the front desk for 300 yen. A gown covers what a towel would not, and the three private baths cover the rest. The gendered indoor baths remain unanswered.

Skip the shared baths and reserve the private one the way this page describes. Once the door is closed, the bath is yours.

How we know

Confirmed from official site FAQ (shinhodaka-yamanohotel.jp/faq/) — a clothing requirement and bath structure, not a tattoo policy

Best for: A mixed open-air bath where a rented gown is compulsory for everyone.

Three private baths, one mixed open-air bath and gendered indoor and open-air baths. The mixed bath runs 15:00 to 9:30 the next morning, ending at 7:00 on cleaning mornings; gowns are 300 yen from the front desk. Saunas in both large baths, 15:00–22:00, not mornings. Bicarbonate and simple springs, free-flowing from the hotel’s own source. 203 beds, around 19,800 yen per person with two meals. No day-use bathing.
