Does Himeji Castle Grandvrio Hotel allow tattoos? Yes, covered
Karaku no Yu, a cold spring heated for the bath, in two rooms the hotel alternates by month, the Wa side has a rock bath, a pot bath and an indoor tub, and both have mist and dry saunas, a few minutes from the castle.
Refused in principle, but the large bath is open to anyone whose tattoo is completely covered by the hotel's own cover seal, which measures 11.4 cm × 20 cm (4.5 × 7.9 in).

The bath
A mild spring, cold at the source, heated, filtered and circulated in all the large tubs. Two bathhouses, Wa no Yu and Kura no Yu, swap between men and women by month. Each side also has a one-person pot bath, a mist sauna at about 40°C and a tiered high-temperature sauna, and for ¥800 more a separate zone with an ondol room, a hot-stone bed bath, a lava bath, a rock-salt bath for women and an iki sauna. Three private baths, Fuku, Roku and Ju, are ¥2,300 an hour for up to four, booked ahead. Day visitors 10 a.m. to midnight, ¥1,000 on weekdays and ¥1,500 on weekends; hotel guests bathe free, 3 p.m. to midnight and 6 to 9 a.m.
The hotel
A Route Inn group hotel with 191 semi-double rooms of 13 m², plus economy and standard twins and a Royal room. Check-out is 10 a.m. (it moved earlier in October 2025), check-in 3 p.m. Its 180 parking spaces cost nothing from an hour before check-in to an hour after check-out.
Good to know
- Check the month: the rock-bath side is for women in odd months and men in even months.
