The bath
The bath is Tabibito no Yu, the traveler’s bath, and the hotel is clear about what is in it: a radium artificial hot spring, made by dissolving a licensed bath additive into the water, colorless and without smell. A plain rectangular granite-edged tub, a floor of reddish flagstones, seated showers with round mirrors and a wall of tall windows lined with potted palms; separate baths for men and women, no sauna, no outdoor tub. Open 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. and 5 to 10 a.m., so a late arrival or an early start still gets a soak. The women’s bath is kept locked, with the key from the front desk. The TV in your room shows how crowded the bath is.
The hotel
A big one for the chain, with 346 rooms, most of them 14 m² singles and semi-doubles, plus 17 m² twins, a few triples and four-bed rooms. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out 10 a.m. The free buffet breakfast runs 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the second floor, where the Hanahana-tei restaurant serves dinner from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., closed Sundays and holidays. Tower parking costs ¥1,000 a night, first come, first served.
