Does Onyado Nono Osaka Yodoyabashi allow tattoos? Yes, covered

Cover seal required

You can bathe if the tattoo is completely hidden under a cover seal. The size the property allows is the thing to check before you book — allowances differ enough between chains to decide the matter.

Refused in principle, but the chain provides cover seals at properties that stock them — two per guest, in three sizes: 8.5×10.5 cm (3.3×4.1 in), 10×14 cm (3.9×5.5 in) and 11.8×17.2 cm (4.6×6.8 in). If the seals cover it, you can bathe. Ask at the desk when you check in rather than at the bath door: the chain says stocks are limited, and it words the promise as “depending on the facility”.

A chain rule, with the largest seals of any chain — when they are in stock

Onyado Nono is Dormy Inn’s ryokan-styled brand, and its FAQ page gives the chain’s answer word for word: refused in principle, but a tattoo that a cover seal hides completely may bathe. Three seal sizes — 85×105, 100×140 and 118×172 mm (4.6×6.8 in) — and two per guest, so two large ones cover about 400 cm², the most of any chain on this site.

The same FAQ adds that seals are provided “depending on the facility” and that “stock is limited”. Bring your own of the right size and the rule works in your favour every time.

What happens when you arrive

Cover the tattoo completely before you go in, with a seal that fits the size the property allows — that figure is in the policy line at the top of this page, and it is the property’s, not ours. Where the seals are sold at the front desk, buy them at check-in rather than at bath time; where they are not, bring your own. A seal that does not cover the whole tattoo counts as no seal, and staff are within their rules to turn you away at the door. Nothing needs declaring, but nothing may show.
