Naniwa no Yu, on the top floor: natural radon water tankered every day from Mount Ikoma on the Nara border, and on the men’s side an open-air bath built up from large rocks.
Tattoos are allowed if up to two cover seals hide them completely. The chain's seals come in three sizes up to 11.8 cm × 17.2 cm (4.6 × 6.8 in), and stock is limited, so ask at the front desk when you check in, or bring your own.

The bath
Naniwa no Yu fills the top floor, the thirteenth, on radon water from Mount Ikoma on the Osaka and Nara border, brought by tanker every day and run into the indoor tub, which holds its warmth well after you get out. The indoor tub has a stone spout and shoji-screened windows; the men’s half-open-air tub is walled with stacked boulders among plants, and both sides have a one-person pot bath beside the open-air bath, a two-level hot sauna and a rock-framed cold tub on a chiller. Open 3 p.m. to 10 a.m., the sauna off 1 to 5 a.m. A lounge on the same floor offers ice cream until 1 a.m. and a yogurt-style drink from 5 a.m.
The hotel
Semi-doubles and doubles of 14 to 16 m², and 20 m² queens, twins and Japanese-style twins that add a futon set to two beds. Mattresses are Simmons pocket-coil, with down duvets. Breakfast is ¥2,000, and the local dish is harihari udon noodles with plenty of mizuna greens. Late at night (9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.) the thirteenth-floor restaurant hands out free bowls of light soy ramen, and the lounge pours a welcome drink in the afternoon and again in the morning.

From Kansai Airport, the hotel suggests the Haruka limited express to Tennoji, then 7 minutes on the Tanimachi line. Parking is ¥2,500 a day, 18 spaces.
