Does Winkel Village allow tattoos? In a private bath

Six cabins in the trees above the Asari river, each with an open-air tub of undiluted spring water held at temperature and a roofed terrace with a fire you light yourself.

There is no shared bath on this site at all, so there is no rule to publish and none is published. The six condominiums each have a private open-air bath of undiluted natural spring water, which the operator says is held at a comfortable temperature at all times. The cottages and the pet cottage do not have one; book a condominium if the bath is the point.

Where it is

Sapporo to Noboribetsu Onsen is about 1 h 45: the Suzuran, JR’s limited express (a faster train with fewer stops and a fee on top of the fare), then a Donan bus of 21 minutes up to the onsen terminal. Toyako Onsen is the Hokuto, the limited express to Hakodate, as far as Toya, then a Donan bus of 24 minutes around the lake, about 2 h 20 in all. Niseko is about 3 h 25 by way of Otaru and Kutchan, or a direct highway coach for less money. Jozankei has no railway: the Jotetsu Kappa Liner runs there from Sapporo Station in 56 minutes and is booked in advance. Otaru is 35 minutes on the Rapid Airport, Lake Shikotsu a bus from New Chitose Airport, and Hakodate 3 h 50 on the Hokuto. JR Hokkaido Rail Pass Five, seven or ten days of unlimited JR trains on the island, which covers the Rapid Airport from Sapporo or the airport to Otaru. The Hokkaido Chuo bus up to Asarigawa Onsen is paid separately. Sold on Klook.

Best for: A cabin with its own open-air spring tub and a covered terrace you can barbecue on in the snow

Six condominiums: Wakakusa, Hiyori and Kazahana for four; Ai and Kurumi for five; Mizuki for seven. They run from 40 to 87 m² excluding the terrace, some single-story, some two, with either a low table or chairs. Every terrace is roofed for year-round barbecue and has a fireplace guests can light themselves. There are also plain rental cottages with no spring bath, a dog-only cottage called Taro and a campsite. Occupancy counts everyone aged two and up, and day visitors count toward it.
