Hotel Shirahamakan
白浜館
Does Hotel Shirahamakan allow tattoos? In a private bath
The large bath is closed to guests with tattoos of any size. Fourteen rooms have an open-air spring bath of their own.
The hotel asks guests with tattoos, whatever the size, not to use the large bath. The rule names the large bath only, and fourteen rooms have a private open-air bath on natural spring water. There is no private bath to reserve.
The bath
Ground-floor rooms have a rock bath in a small garden, and second-floor rooms a cypress bath on the balcony; eleven Japanese twin rooms are built this way. Two semi-suites have a rock bath and a barrel bath each, and the detached Kainanso has a tub made from a plum barrel. In every one, only the outdoor tub is spring water. The indoor bath is not, and the hotel says the room baths have no view.
The shared baths, the ones closed to tattoos, have three open-air tubs for each sex. In winter the hotel may close the open-air ones when the source runs low.
The hotel
Forty-one rooms and no elevator. Check-in is 3 p.m. and checkout is 11 a.m. Another eleven rooms have a private foot bath, which is not a bathing tub.
