Fukutokuya Ryokan
福徳屋旅館
Does Fukutokuya Ryokan allow tattoos? In a private bath
Fukutokuya has no big bath at all: it has seven private ones, from cypress tubs beside a garden to a top-floor open-air bath over the sea, and it sets no hours, so guests bathe through the night.
Fukutokuya publishes no tattoo rule. It has no large shared bath to be turned away from: the inn bathes its guests in seven private baths, including a top-floor open-air view bath, and lets them in at any hour of the night.
The bath
The inn's spring comes out of the ground at 105°C, and the page calls it a chloride-bearing salt spring. It runs through every tub without recirculation. The inn lists nerve complaints, women's ailments, rheumatism, stomach trouble, respiratory illness and recovery after surgery as what the water is used for.
There is no large communal bath. Instead Fukutokuya has seven private baths and bathes everyone that way. Two are semi-open-air cypress tubs, Kappa-no-yu and Tanuki-no-yu, each with a small garden of rocks and greenery behind a low fence and room for about four people. Four are indoor stone baths kept under low light, which the inn describes as a quiet, grown-up space. The seventh is the top-floor view bath, open to the air and facing the sea, where the inn tells you to watch the sunset. Every one is free for staying guests. The inn sets no bathing hours: the page says guests may bathe at any time during their stay, all night if they like, apart from short cleaning periods. The page does not say whether a bath is claimed with a key or a sign, and it publishes no day-use price.
The hotel
Fukutokuya has 18 rooms for up to 90 guests in three kinds: ordinary tatami rooms with a toilet and washbasin, tatami rooms with their own semi-open-air source-fed bath, and twin bedrooms renovated in 2024. Every window faces the sea. Dinner is seafood from the coast; the inn also takes pets in some rooms. The front desk is staffed 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., check-in is from 3 p.m. and check-out by 10 a.m.
