Juraku
雲仙小浜温泉 寿楽
Does Juraku allow tattoos? In a private bath
Juraku sells one free 50-minute turn in a Shigaraki ceramic private bath with every stay and more turns at 1,100 yen, booked at the desk when you check in. Its lounge pours free drinks from 3 to 9 p.m.
Juraku publishes no tattoo rule for its second-floor large bath. It has four private baths in Shigaraki ceramic, booked at the front desk at check-in in 50-minute turns; the first turn is free and later ones cost 1,100 yen. Some rooms have a semi-open-air bath of their own.
The bath
The water is Obama's sodium chloride spring, which the hotel says comes up at 100°C across the town at 15,000 tons a day and, being salt, is slow to let the warmth out of you. The large bath is on the second floor, men's and women's, with the two sides swapped every morning so a two-night guest sees both. It runs 3 p.m. to midnight and 6 to 9 a.m. for staying guests, with shampoo, conditioner and body soap at the tubs and cleanser and lotion in the dressing room. Beside it is a small open-air bath fed from the source, and a sauna the hotel says is praised for its wood smell, with a little cold bath, open 3 to 11 p.m. and not in the morning.
The private baths are four rooms each holding a Shigaraki ceramic tub, a dark glazed bowl big enough for about two people, with a window onto rocks and shrubs. A turn is 50 minutes. You book at the front desk when you check in; the first turn is included in the stay and each later one costs 1,100 yen. Hours are 3 to 10 p.m. with the last booking at 9 p.m., and 6 to 9 a.m. with the last booking at 8 a.m.
The hotel
Juraku has 22 rooms, 15 Western, 5 Japanese and 2 Japanese-Western, with sea views and some with a semi-open-air bath of their own. Dinner and breakfast are served in Lounge Tachibana on the ground floor under a big window onto the sky and sea; the lounge also pours free drinks, alcohol included, with light snacks from 3 to 9 p.m. except 5 to 6 p.m., and no outside food or drink may be brought in. There is a children's dinner. Free parking for 30 cars with an EV charger.
