Does Private Spa Hotel Orange Bay allow tattoos? In a private bath

Private bath only

Orange Bay is a 12-room hotel with no shared bath: every room has an open-air spring tub on its own terrace, granite or cypress, running day and night a few steps from Tachibana Bay. A rented bath at the water's edge, Akane, takes day visitors by the 50-minute slot.

Orange Bay publishes no tattoo rule and has no shared bath to publish one for. All 12 rooms have an open-air spring bath of their own, flowing through from the source and usable 24 hours, so a tattooed guest never leaves the room to bathe.

The bath

The water is Obama's sodium chloride spring, which the hotel says has been used for rheumatism and nerve pain and which it pipes to every room straight from the source. There is no communal bath in the building. Each of the 12 rooms has an open-air view bath on its own terrace, filled and overflowing around the clock: a natural-stone tub in the Standard Twin rooms, whether the Natural or the Modern version, a cypress tub in the Deluxe Suite, and in the two detached Hanare Welina rooms a terrace bath looking onto a private garden. The FAQ says a room bath takes three adults at a stretch and can be used 24 hours. The Welina rooms opened in December 2022; one is built with almost no steps.

For day visitors the hotel rents Nami-no-yu Akane, an open-air bath set right at the water's edge. A 50-minute slot for one to four people costs 3,000 yen, with 500 yen for each person beyond four; it runs 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., last booking 10 p.m., and is booked the day before or on the day through the hotel's YUASOBI private-bath facility. Payment is cash, there is nowhere to lock valuables, and the bath closes in bad weather, spring tides or high seas.

The hotel

Orange Bay calls itself a private spa hotel and says it stands closer to the sea than anything else in Obama. The 12 rooms are Standard Twins in two styles, a Deluxe Suite with a Japanese-Western layout, and the two Hanare Welina detached rooms. Breakfast is brought to the room. The ground floor holds a gelato counter and a souvenir shop, and the hotel sells seafood from its shop below. Free parking is at the seafood shop on the highway side.
