Does Airinkan allow tattoos? In a private bath

Seventeen tubs on three of the inn’s own springs, and one rented room, Chappun, where an indoor bath opens onto a Shigaraki pottery tub half outdoors.

Airinkan rents a private bath called Chappun, an indoor tub plus a semi-open-air Shigaraki pottery tub, and sells rooms with their own open-air hot spring bath. It publishes nothing on tattoos. Its note that the large baths may be used in a bathing garment is a Pink Ribbon provision for people after breast surgery, not permission to cover a tattoo.

Where it is

Sendai is the door to all of these. Akiu is 43 minutes on one bus from the station, with no change. Nyuto is the Komachi, JR’s Shinkansen across to Akita, as far as Tazawako, then a bus of 47 minutes, about 2 h 20 in all. Naruko is twelve minutes on the Shinkansen to Furukawa and three quarters of an hour up the Rikuu East line. Zao is the Senzan line rapid over the mountains to Yamagata, then a bus of 37 minutes up to the ski village. Hanamaki is the Yamabiko to Kitakami, one stop on the local line and a bus, about 2 h 10. Higashiyama is the long one: the Shinkansen to Koriyama, the Ban-etsu West line over to Aizu-Wakamatsu and the loop bus, nearly four hours with the waits, and easier from Tokyo. Best for: A family or couple wanting a rented bath without giving up a big-hotel stay

Chappun costs 2,200 yen on weekdays and 2,750 yen on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, when only overnight guests may book it; it is sold as an option or a plan extra. Rooms with an open-air hot spring bath include the special room 824 and the Hanakanmuri type. Three sources feed 17 tubs across the River, Mountain and Forest baths. The operator writes “大浴場は、入浴着を着用してご利用いただけます” and links it to the Pink Ribbon inn network. Day bathing 10:00 to 13:30 and 14:00 to 19:00 on days shown on its calendar. A reservation-only bus runs from Shin-Hanamaki, and the inn also meets trains at Hanamaki.
