Does Ryugu no Tsukai allow tattoos? In a private bath
Ryugu no Tsukai owns one of only twelve springs in Inatori and pipes it to everything from a rooftop footbath to four private baths rented by the hour. Its FAQ turns tattoos away from the big bath, then mentions the palm-size cover it sells at the desk.
Asked whether a tattooed guest can use the large bath, the hotel’s FAQ apologizes and says it refuses. The next line says a palm-size tattoo cover is on sale at the front desk for anyone who wants one, without saying in so many words that a covered tattoo will be let in. Until the desk confirms that, count on the four private baths, ¥1,650 for 40 minutes, or one of the two family rooms with a spring-fed bathroom.
The bath
Four private baths are let by the hour: Shinki, Ryujin, Kaiya and Gekko. Each session starts on the hour and lasts 40 minutes, from 3 p.m. with the last start at 10 p.m., and costs ¥1,650 a room. You collect the key at the front desk and bring towels from your room. A valve beside the tub lets you set how much spring water and how much cold water runs in, and the hotel warns that the spring is very hot. Children still in diapers are welcome in the private baths, and a baby bath chair is provided.
Everything is fed from the hotel's own well, about 400 meters deep, one of twelve sources in Inatori. It is a sodium chloride spring, 62.6°C, clear, faintly salty and odorless. The two indoor halls, Shizuma-no-yu and Nami-no-yu, look out to sea and swap between men and women after cleaning from 2 to 3 a.m.; they open from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. and 3 to 9 a.m. A mixed infinity open-air bath beside the pool is used in a swimsuit or the hotel's bathing wrap. There is also a mineral steam room at ¥880 and a rooftop footbath.
Day visitors pay ¥1,100 from 1 to 9 p.m., last entry 8 p.m., for up to three hours.
The hotel
Opened in 2018 on the Inatori seafront. The 33 guest rooms all face Sagami Bay and combine beds with tatami mats; most are twins, and two corner family rooms of 13 tatami have a spring-fed bathroom and bunk beds for children. There are also dormitory rooms of 8 to 10 curtained beds, one of them for women only, which do not take minors. Dinner is a set Japanese course that starts for everyone at 5:30 p.m. The building has a pool, a library, a karaoke room and a playroom. The main entrance is up an outside staircase on the second floor.
Good to know
- Ask at the desk about the palm-size cover before you plan on the shared halls; the FAQ's first answer is a refusal.
- Private baths start on the hour, 40 minutes for ¥1,650, key from the front desk.
- The infinity bath is mixed, so bring a swimsuit or borrow the bathing wrap, free for staying guests.
- A free shuttle meets staying guests at Izu-Inatori Station.
Getting there
The hotel gives about 2 hours 37 minutes from Tokyo Station to Izu-Inatori Station on the Odoriko limited express. Its free shuttle bus meets staying guests at the station. The hotel publishes no walking time. Because it opened in 2018, some car navigation systems do not show it; the hotel says to set the Inatori Marine Sports Center instead. Guests who cannot manage the outside stairs to the second-floor entrance should call ahead to be shown another door.

How we know
Confirmed from official site (the FAQ refuses the large bath and mentions the cover sold at the desk; the hot spring page gives the four private baths)
This is the rule for the shared baths. It doesn’t apply to the private baths.
Best for: day trippers and budget travelers who want a private tiled bath over the sea by the hour
The four private baths, Shinki, Ryujin, Kaiya and Gekko, start on the hour from 3 p.m., last start 10 p.m., 40 minutes for ¥1,650 a room; the key is at the front desk and day visitors can add one to the ¥1,100 day-use fee. Bathers set the mix of spring and cold water at the tub with a valve. Two corner family rooms have a bathroom fed with spring water. The mixed infinity open-air bath needs a swimsuit or the rental bathing wrap. The rooftop footbath is free. Ask at the desk whether a palm-size cover opens the shared halls before relying on it.
