Ten cottages standing apart in a cedar valley, each one an indoor bath and an open-air bath fed continuously from the source, with a tatami room to sit in afterwards and birdsong for company.

Ten separate bath houses, each used by one party at a time, which is why no policy is needed and none is published. The operator states that every cottage has its own indoor bath and open-air bath, both running constantly on water from the source, plus a rest room and a toilet. There is no communal bath on the site at all.

Where it is

Hakata to Ibusuki is about 3 h 25: the Kyushu Shinkansen to Kagoshima-Chuo, then the Ibusuki Makurazaki line down the coast, which the sightseeing train Ibusuki no Tamatebako also runs. Ureshino is about 1 h 20, a limited express to Takeo-Onsen and the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen one stop further. Ten cottages in standard and premium sizes, the premium ones with a living room. From 1,850 yen. Open 10:00 to 21:30 with last reception at 20:30, closed Thursdays. Reservations are taken by telephone, and the operator states plainly that it does not offer overnight stays. Nothing here is walkable from the station; it is a drive up into the cedars.
