Does Isshinkan allow tattoos? In a private bath
Isshinkan fills an indoor pool from its own spring, and its Yukemuri room comes with 50 free minutes in the open-air private bath.
Isshinkan publishes no tattoo rule for its baths, Kurhaus or pool. Its open-air private bath runs on the inn’s own source and is sold at 3,300 yen for 50 minutes to overnight and lunch guests; the Yukemuri room includes 50 minutes of it free.
What the hotel says about its baths

The bath
The inn calls itself the one Kinugawa house running entirely on its own source, found about 80 years ago when the founder, a restaurant owner, noticed a patch of riverbank where snow would not settle. The spring is alkaline simple, 34 degrees at the source, listed for neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, bruises, sprains, digestive complaints, poor circulation and recovery after illness. The main facility is a Kurhaus certified by the Japan Kurhaus Association: a full-body bath, a box steam bath, a lie-down bath, a sauna, a whirlpool, a standing bath, falling-water and partial baths and a pouring station, with printed bathing programs for stress, back pain, stiff shoulders and skin. The men's and women's Kurhaus swap morning and evening, and a lounge has cold water. Elsewhere in the building the open-air bath Iwatsubame-no-yu also swaps by time. An indoor pool of 10 by 4 meters is filled with the same spring at about 30 degrees; bring a swimsuit. Day visitors use the Kurhaus 14:00 to 21:00, last entry 20:00, for ¥1,650 plus ¥50 bathing tax.
The private open-air bath, Shinsen-no-yu, looks over the gorge and runs on the inn's source. For overnight and lunch guests it is ¥3,300 for 50 minutes, by reservation; outside visitors pay ¥5,500 for up to four, plus ¥1,100 a head beyond that, at 12:00, 13:00 or 14:00. The Yukemuri room includes 50 minutes of it free. The pool can be rented whole for ¥4,950 an hour at 21:00, 5:30 or 7:30, booked at check-in.
The hotel
A century-old inn on the west bank that began as a kappo (counter-style Japanese dining) restaurant and became a ryokan when the spring was found. Rooms are Japanese, 10 mats or with an anteroom, with quiet-sleep rooms, Wa-modern rooms with beds, the Re-raku room with a massage chair, and the Yukemuri room, whose river-view indoor bath is plain water; Re-raku and Yukemuri connect for a party of eight, with stairs between the elevator and the room. Dinner is a set menu chosen per person, with a yuba (tofu skin) vegetarian menu added in 2026. The folk-craft lobby is full of ornaments made by the staff. There are a gym beside the baths, a karaoke bar for groups and table tennis. Check-in 15:00, check-out 10:00.

How we know

Best for: Families who can connect two rooms and take the private open-air bath together
The Yukemuri room’s own river-view indoor bath is not onsen water, per the operator (「こちらのお風呂は温泉ではありません」); the free private-bath slot is the spring-water option. The Kurhaus, pool and baths are shared and the inn says nothing on tattoos, so do not assume them. Private open-air bath: 3,300 yen for 50 minutes for overnight and lunch guests, 5,500 yen for up to four outside visitors. The Kurhaus and the open-air bath swap by time of day.
